Perfecto for Felix

Perfecto for Felix

The Tampa Bay Rays were at the mercy of the King today, and what a day it was to be at Safeco Field. Everyone at the field, from players to fans, were in King’s court. King Felix. 27 up, 27 down. 12 strikeouts. He was in perfect rhythm all day, and it showed in the box score.

Felix threw 24 curves, 20 of them strikes, 10 of them swinging strikes.

He threw the 23rd perfect game in MLB history (256th no-hitter). 1st season in MLB history in which there were 3 perfect games (Humber, Cain, Felix Hernandez). The most surprising part of the game might not have been the no-hitter from Felix, but the fact that Seattle actually scored a run. The Tampa Bay offense has had its struggles, and continues to be at the wrong-end of these perfect games.

It was the Mariners’ second no-hitter of the season after six pitchers combined for one on June 8. It was the third no-hitter at Safeco Field this year after Philip Humber of the Chicago White Sox had one against the Mariners on April 21.
