Nash goes to Hollywood
In a surprising turn of events, Steve Nash is headed to Los Angeles (not the Clippers) in a sign & trade. In the deal, the Lakers give 2013 & 2015 first-round picks and 2013 & 2014 second-round picks to the Suns.
Basically, Nash falls into the trade exception the Lakers had from trading Lamar Odom, and as a result, Phoenix gets no salary back in the deal (which is why they do the deal).
First was John Gambadoro, a Phoenix radio host who sent out the tweet:
Nash to LA for multiple picks all but done!!!
Soon after, Marc Stein confirmed:
Sources say Suns have consented to sign-and-trade Steve Nash to Lakers for package of future picks
Man, I would love to see Kobe’s reaction right now. He gets to finish his career with one of the league’s best point guards, and Nash gets to finish his career with a shot at a title. Sources have told ESPN.com that Nash will try to convince Grant Hill to join the Lakers too. Lakers get older, but honestly, who cares [for now] ?!
Look for the Lakers to trade either Bynum or Pau too. Nash needs some space to work his pick & roll magic, and that’s tough to do with two big bodies in the middle.
Here’s a good read on the winners/losers in this deal.
Oh, btw, for anyone who has ever said “no one likes playing with Kobe” …
RT @AlexKennedyNBA Nash chose the Lakers over the Knicks, according to source. Kobe Bryant recruited him.
I wonder if LA will let Nash wear No. 13 still? They retired it for Wilt.
Like I say, being a Lakers fan is like Christmas morning every day. Well, most days. Looks like Christmas fell on July 4th this year.
Lakers back …
